If you’re looking for townhouses in Cambie, there are plenty within this lovely stretch of space that borders the elite neighbourhood of Shaughnessy. Framed by Oak and Ontario on the east and west, and 16th and 41st on the north and south, Cambie’s amazing location has made it a hub within the city.
Believe it or not, this historic neighbourhood dates all the way back to the 1800s. Originally part of a land grant given to the Pacific Canadian Railway, the neighbourhood named after CPR Engineer Henry Cambie has evolved into a vibrant medley of different age groups, income levels, and denominations. Surrounded by parks—most notably Douglas, Riley, and Queen Elizabeth—Cambie appeals to the outdoor enthusiast, but serial shoppers needn’t fret. Oakridge Centre, with its eclectic mix of big box and designer stores, sits just beyond the southern border. Additionally, the Cambie Corridor is well-served by a myriad of restaurants, bakeries, banks, coffee shops, and grocery stores. Other features include close proximity to VanDusen Gardens and the BC Women’s and Children’s hospitals. Like other family-oriented neighbourhoods, Cambie is well served by schools, including Emily Carr and Edith Cavell Elementary. Eric Hamber caters to teens, and there’s also a good range of prestigious private institutions, including York House, St. Georges Academy, and Little Flower Academy.
Like its residents, the housing around Cambie is diverse. A good selection of low-rise condos, rental units, and townhouses lie discreetly tucked into neighbourhoods of single-family homes. Stunning heritage houses dating back to the 1910s dot the northern border. However, many of these have been subdivided into strata properties—a response to the growing demand for affordable housing with easy downtown access. Residents also enjoy convenient access to public transportation thanks to the Canada Line, which has become the backbone of this thriving community.
