Vancouver Weather: A Warm Welcome to Newcomers

When people plan to relocate, they determine their next steps by considering a wide range of factors: the cost of living, income tax, job prospects, healthcare system, public infrastructure – the list goes on. One factor that you’ll often find high on the list for those who land here in BC is the weather. Looking into how Mother Nature behaves in a particular location is critical, especially for those who want to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle and engage in different kinds of activities each season. Fortunately, the mild Vancouver weather makes this possible for people who choose to live in these environments. Vancouver is well known for its moderate climate, thanks to the warm Pacific ocean currents and protection from surrounding mountain ranges.

Autumn

This year’s shockingly warm Autumn weather has been a conversation all around the city. Generally speaking, Fall in Vancouver is relatively moderate compared to other areas in Canada, as the average temperature is a manageable 10 degrees Celsius. This year, October has brought daily maximum temperature records across 25 B.C. communities, according to preliminary data from Environment Canada. In Vancouver, a 93-year-old record was beaten slightly when it got up to 20.2 C on October 16th. For those who enjoy time spent outside amidst changing colors and fall festivities, Vancouver offers high appeal. In November, residents must be sure to bring their umbrellas everywhere they go as this is considered the wettest month. Despite the rain, autumn in Vancouver is perfect for heading out to parks like Queen Elizabeth Park, Van Dusen Botanical Gardens, Stanley Park, and more, to experience the breathtaking fall foliage.

Winter

Vancouver brings a high appeal for those who prefer to spend their winter chasing the occasional snowy escape instead of residing between snow banks. With hardly any snow to be found in the city throughout the Winter season, Vancouver residents can still enjoy fast access to gorgeous snowy settings and world-class skiing just a short drive away. From the North Shore slopes of Seymour, Cypress, and Grouse Mountain just 15-20 minutes from the city, to the slightly further 1 ⅕-2 hour trek up to Whistler, the outdoor enthusiast can enjoy a wide variety of winter sports without much time reserved for shoveling a driveway.

Summer

If you stick around for Summer in Vancouver you will find bluer skies, warm temperatures, and an abundance of outdoor activities that truly set the city apart. The coastal setting provides plenty of space for gathering with friends at the beach or on the water. The comfortably warm weather and natural beauty make Vancouver an ideal place for those who enjoy hiking, mountain biking, climbing, golfing, etc. Furthermore, with Stanley Park and the Downtown Seawall offering a scenic summer oasis for tourists and residents alike, there are endless ways to enjoy Vancouver throughout this sunny season.

A heightened awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle makes getting outdoors a high priority for many these days. Fortunately, Vancouver seems to have it all; with a location that boasts endless outdoor amenities, and a moderate, coastal climate that allows its natural beauty to be enjoyed through all seasons. As such, it is, indeed, one of the most liveable cities in the world. Interested in calling Vancouver home? Drop us a line as we’d love to help you find the perfect space to land in our city!
