Cool Colour Schemes for Townhouses and Townhomes in 2018

Townhouses and Townhomes

“Choosing colours for townhouses and townhomes can be difficult when so many options,” says Ariane Benjamin, realtor at “With limited space for furniture and knickknacks, paint is one way you can cut loose and really personalize your home. To help, we’ve created a blog from an article recently posted on

For those wondering about current trends, say goodbye to eggshell because colour rules in 2018. According to San Francisco-based interior designer, architectural colour specialist, and design writer Jennifer Ott, “This year’s crop offers a diverse mix of lights, brights, darks, and neutrals, so perhaps you’ll find a hue you would be happy to take home.”

The Pantone Color Institute recently declared Ultra Violet its 2018 Color of the Year, to the chagrin of several interior decorators. However, Jennifer’s picks include Ocean by Sherwin Williams, Black Flame by PPG Paints, The Green Hour by Dunn-Edwards, Sandstone Tint by Dutch Boy, Black Magic by Olympic, Heron by Pratt & Lambert, In the Moment by Behr, Bahia Grass by Kelly Moore, Caliente by Benjamin Moore, and Deep Onyx by Glidden.

“In general, we seem to be moving away from the everything-in-white trend and toward moodier, more introspective hues,” explains Jennifer. “Shades of black are in, as are watery blue-greens. I was expecting to see hotter hues dominating the field this year, but the only warm contenders are a bold red from Benjamin Moore and a soft tan from Dutch Boy.”

For her favourite of 2018, Jennifer chooses Oceanside, a lovely green-blue hybrid, which she says works well for both traditional and contemporary styles. The website contains pictures with several examples for inspiration. For more, go to:

“Colour is a wonderful way to beautify townhouses and townhomes,” says Ariane. “Choosing the right colour will allow you to create a space that’s rich and inviting.  It makes your home feel larger, more customized, and airy. Ultimately, paint and decoration is also a good investment, because you’re adding interest and value to the property, which usually makes it more sellable when the time comes.”
